It's strange how football goes. Last week the Countryman team scraped a win with a very average performance against Quantock Pride. This week a much better all round showing, only to be undone by two clinical finishes from Woolavington in the second half.
The match started brightly, with some good possession and numerous chances for the Countryman team, although the goal just wouldn't come with both Ben Birch and Jason Watson coming close early on. With the score at 0-0 as the second half started, the same pattern started to emerge with good pressure from the Countryman but no goal to show for it. Finally Jason Watson latched on to a good angled pass to lift the ball over the on-rushing keeper to take a deserved lead.
Chances kept coming but were not taken, and Countryman were made to pay as Woolavington first drew level, with almost a mirror image goal of the opener, and then took the lead through a quick break.
The Countryman team, without any available substitutes, just couldn't get the equalising goal and fell to their first defeat of the season.
An update on Colin Blatchford-Brown who limped off in the final minutes: he suffered medial ligament damage, which will probably keep him out for at least 6 weeks. All in all, not a good day for the Countryman team.
