TOM BELL FINAL: TIGER OLD BOYS 6-2 DURLEIGH |
|
The final competitive encounter of the 2004-05 Uxella League season saw the Tom Bell Trophy Final contested between league champions Tiger Old Boys and their First Division rivals Durleigh.
For the first quarter of this game the Tigers looked distinctly toothless as they seemed to suffer a collective fatigue brought on by the recent fixture congestion of their sister Saturday side, Bridgwater Sports. Durleigh were therefore able to capitalise by taking a deserved lead after fifteen minutes through Ian Bellinger, who converted a penalty to mark his return to action after a six-week absence.
However, as has happened on a number of occasions this season, the act of going behind seemed to stir the Tigers into action and the scores were soon level again as Rob Fearn converted a spot-kick of his own. Then Tigers hot-shot Wilf Davie struck twice before the interval to put the pre-match favourites firmly in the box seat.
The second half saw Wilf Davie complete his hat-trick before Durleigh's veteran stopper Alan Tait was unfortunate enough to score an own goal in his last game before hanging up his boots. Paul Mear then struck to make it six for the Tigers before Ian Bellinger struck back with his second of the game to give Durleigh a consolation effort. However, it was too little, too late to prevent the Tigers from bagging their third piece of silverware of another magnificent campaign.
