FINAL GAMES OF 2004-05 SEASON |
|
Friday evening saw the last remaining game played in the Uxella League Division One this season as Tiger Old Boys entertained Durleigh and, predictably enough, ran out comfortable winners with a 5-2 victory despite fielding a somewhat depleted side as a result of the recent clash of fixtures with Saturday side Bridgwater Sports, who share the registrations of a number of Tiger players. As such, the Tigers fielded no less than six of their reserves but they still managed to storm into a 5-0 lead thanks to a superb four-goal blitz from Mark "Brad Pitt" Pople plus a further strike from the prolific Mike Nicholson who finishes the campaign with twenty-plus league goals. Durleigh rallied late in the game and managed to score a couple of consolation goals but it was not enough to dent the Tigers confidence which was at a sufficiently high level for them to call upon the services of a notable late substitute, one Alan "Gerd Muller" Lott.
With the top flight situation all wrapped up there was only one fixture outstanding in order to complete the entire league programme and that duly took place in Division Three this Sunday morning as Tor Sports entertained Pig & Whistle Reserves, the team who started the day level on points with them at the bottom of the table. The young Pig side duly ran out 2-1 winners thanks to another strike from regular scorer Jamie Evans plus an own goal from Tor Sports' Jason Palmer who was left "absolutely gutted" that his O.G. effectively consigned his side to the bottom of the pile of teams still in existence at the end of a long, hard campaign.
That just leaves one remaining game to be played before the 2004-05 season can officially be described as over, and that is the Tom Bell Trophy Final which will be contested between Uxella League reigning champions Tiger Old Boys and their last league opponents, Durleigh. The final will take place this coming Wednesday evening (11th May) at Bridgwater Sports and Social Club. Kick-off is scheduled for 6:30pm and the game will be refereed by Mark Lawrence together with assistants Phil Willis and Tim Lawrence. Mike Hill will perform the role of fourth official.
