PRESIDENTS CUP: WOOLAVINGTON 2-2 TIGER OB (Wool. win 3-2 on pens)

The new 2008-09 season kicked off on Wednesday evening at Bridgwater Town FC's Fairfax Park where long-standing rivals Woolavington (the reigning 2008 Uxella League champions) faced Tiger Old Boys (the 2008 Dave Hobbs Cup winners).

No quarter was given by either side but the Tigers took the initiative early on, hitting the woodwork four times in the first half and registering a lead through an Ian Bellinger penalty against his former club.

It is fair to say that the game only really came fully to life in the closing minutes. With normal time almost up Woolavington struck what looked like a last gasp equaliser from a Gary Head free kick. However, there were further gasps to come as the Tigers almost immediately took the lead once again through their young sub Aaron Whaites to make it 2-1 just as the clock ticked past ninety minutes play.

However, seconds after the restart Woolavington equalised for a second time when a Matt Fursland long ball bounced freakishly over the Tigers keeper and into the net to make the final score two a piece.

The game then went straight to a penalty shoot out which Woolavington won 3-2, thereby securing the first silverware of the new campaign.
