The first silverware of the season since the opening day's Presidents Cup has again been won by Tiger Old Boys after they retained the Dave Hobbs Cup for the second year running with a narrow 3-2 win over Quantock Pride at Bridgwater Town's Fairfax Park.
The Tigers took the lead midway through the first half through a Justin Lewis strike while Quantock Pride had a James Bawden penalty saved superbly by Wayne Trapnell before eventually managing to draw level through Shaun O'Brien. However, the Old Boys were awarded a penalty of their own just before the break after a handball and stand-in skipper Jamie Chillingworth coolly converted to give the Tigers a 2-1 lead at half-time. The second half then saw the Tigers stamp their authority on the game for long periods and it looked as if Pride's hopes had been extinguished but their talismanic striker James Bawden had other ideas, blasting home an equaliser with ten minutes to go. However, as extra time looked inevitable youngster Max Cushing popped up to score the winner for the Tigers with more or less the last kick of the game.
Meanwhile, in Division One Woolavington leapfrogged Tigers into top spot with a narrow 1-0 home win over Railway Club after Railway had a man sent-off early on for gesturing to the referee.
Cross Rifles came away from their trip to Pawlett United with a 3-2 victory after a double strike from Carl Jones and one from Pete Pritchard.
Flag Old Boys were also victorious on the road as they dismantled Grasshoppers '04 with a 5-1 away win. Rampaging winger Jamie Stewart led the way with a hat-trick and Lee Turner and Lee White sealed the victory. Hoppers skipper Simon Turberfield scored an excellent consolation for the home side.
In Division Two the front-runners were again victorious.
Leaders Bridgwater Wanderers won 4-2 at Admirals after two goals from Ryan Hobbs, another Dave Baker strike and an own goal. Jason Bale and John Doyle replied for Admirals.
Second-placed Bower United also scored four as they won 4-1 at home to Woolavington Reserves. Matt Eckley scored all four of their goals.
The prolific Kev Warre scored yet another hat-trick in Blake Old Boys' 7-2 away win at Abbey Moor to take his season's tally to 59 goals. Veteran Jamie Winter and Craig Watts both scored a brace for Blake to complete the rout.
