MATCHDAY 29 ROUND-UP

The heavy rain the previous day caused a number of postponements once again leaving only two playable games in Division One of the Uxella League.

Maltshovel Sports ran out 2-0 home winners over Railway Club after an early strike from in-form Andrew Skidmore and a bicycle kick from Dean Organ. Railway were reduced to ten men when their keeper was sent-off for a last man challenge on Skidmore. Andrew Barnett had the chance to further extend Shovel's lead but blasted his penalty kick high over the bar.

In a basement battle between bottom side Grasshoppers '04 and third-bottom Cross Rifles it was honours even after the two sides played out a tight 1-1 draw. After a goalless first period the Hoppers went into the lead on the hour mark after a superb finish from their new teenage stiker Liam Moore, who scored for the second successive game. The Rifles then fought back to equalise with ten minutes remaining.

Meanwhile, in the second division Bridgwater Wanderers went top of the pile after twice coming from behind to eventually steal all three points from their away game at L & G. Despite losing their influential skipper early on to an horrific injury Scott Hawkins and Daniel Hooper put L & G ahead twice but a double from Dave Baker and a Darren Hill strike kept the Wanderers' title tilt on track.

The other second flight side with a serious eye on silverware are Bower United who remain third but with three games in hand on the leaders after a 4-1 away victory at Pawlett Reserves. Scott Capel (2), Steve Hall and Rob White were their men on target. Matt Baines replied for Pawlett Reserves.

Grasshoppers '05 again suffered at the hand of a former player as Jack Taylor, last season's top scorer for the Grasshoppers first team, struck a five-goal haul as Sportsman hammered the Hoppers reserves 11-2. James Pethers (3), Tom Remiszewski (2) and Mark Chidgey completed the rout. Chris Harman and a last minute penalty from super-veteran Rob "Sedgey" Seymour was 05's response.

In the other game in Division Two Woolavington Reserves won 3-1 at home to Coxley Rovers.
