Only two games survived the weather this weekend as the rain returned with a vengeance. Both matches took place in the First Division of the Uxella League on two of the more resilient pitches in the area.
Ashcott must have been thankful that their ground was in a fit state to host their encounter with visitors Cross Rifles as they proceeded to register a surprise 6-1 victory that takes them off the bottom of the table. Their scoresheet was a veritable "Chris Mass" as Chris Murphy (2), Chris Bell (2) and Chris Fletcher all scored. Dan Spring bagged their other effort.
The game between Grasshoppers '04 and Red Tile was also able to go ahead but only after the match was switched from "Lake Morganians" to another of the areas more forgiving venues at Tile's naturally drained Cossington HQ. Unfortunately for the Hoppers, despite making a real contest of it in the first half, they were unable to finish any of the many chances that they created and also missed a penalty. They were ultimately given a masterclass in the art of finishing by Tile's player-manager Andy Staunton who scored four good strikes. Shane Thompson was also on target for the "away" side who now go level on points at the top with leaders Tigers.
