Only one Uxella League game survived the wet weather this weekend with First Division Pawlett United's Cannington College pitch being surprisingly playable, perhaps due to the efficient natural drainage provided by its slight sideways slope.
Pawlett took full advantage on the day and held a comfortable 3-1 lead at the interval over visitors Ashcott. The away side then rallied early in the second period and managed to get the score back to 3-2. However a defensive error then allowed United to increase their advantage once again and this appeared to cause some heads to drop in the Ashcott ranks. Pawlett then finished the game strongly, surging into a 7-2 lead before a further consolation goal from the visitors saw a final result of 7-3 at the final whistle.
After struggling early on in their league campaign this victory extends Pawlett's unbeaten run to five games. Once again their main source of goals was livewire striker Will Beggs who hit four poachers efforts. A Curtis Ricketts strike plus a right-footed piledriver from Marcus Slade and a superb left-footed shot from outside the box from Simon Coombes sealed the three points and sees Pawlett climb to seventh in the table.
