While the subject of winter breaks continues to be debated at the top level of British football Grasshoppers '04 and reigning Uxella League champions Woolavington finally emerged from their respective mid-season hiatuses after both sides had seen no action for well over a month through a series of postponements and closed fixtures. The young Hoppers side took an early lead through an instinctive 40-yard lob from Ally Witts but Woolavington soon levelled before quickly adding two further goals to give themselves a comfortable 3-1 lead. However, the Hoppers rallied again and Marc Crossley followed in well to the head over the line and leave the score at 3-2 to the visitors at the break. There remained little between the two sides until midway through the second half when Woolavington sprung the Hoppers offside trap to go 4-2 up. Then a superb low struck volley from Matt Blackmore sealed a 5-2 win that leaves Woolavington six points behind leaders Tiger Old Boys but with two games in hand.
Maxwells looked to be home and dry after going 3-0 up at home to Quantock Pride after two goals from Steve Spencer and a first of the season from Danny Russell. They might even have extended their lead further had it not been for a string of excellent saves from Quantock keeper Paul Nolan. The Pride outfield players then displayed their own battling qualities in the second half as James Bawden, Paul Bawden and Scott Slaney scored the goals that secured a point for the visitors from a 3-3 draw.
Experience told once again for Railway Club who recorded a solid 3-0 home victory over Cross Rifles after a double strike from Bob Abrams and one from Nigel Gillard.
In the remaining game in Division One goals from Ryan Dray and Paul Organ could not prevent Maltshovel from going down 2-3 at home to Pawlett United who are now four games unbeaten.
Only three fixtures survived the soggy conditions in Division Two with the result of the day seeing Huntspill Crowns thump start-of-day table toppers Bridgwater Wanderers 4-0 after goals from Russell Catlow, Paul Burrow and John Kear and a Wayne Barrett penalty.
Cannington replace Wanderers at the top of the table after a 5-2 away win at Woolavington Reserves. Two goals each from Darryl Taylor and Rich Harvey and one from Lee Harvey secured the three points for Cannington.
Blake Old Boys also won in convincing fashion with a 7-2 hammering of Ramblers after a hat-trick from Ben Howes, two from Kev Warre, one from Ricky O'Connor and an own goal. Blake rise to fourth in the table on the back of this win.
