What a difference a week makes. Only seven days after a complete washout this crisp and dry December morning saw a full Uxella League programme.
Start-of-days leaders Red Tile could not defrost their normal fluid play and were made to pay by a hard-working and determined Maltshovel side who fully deserved their 2-0 victory after goals from Steve Davis and from Paul Organ after some fine work from in-form skipper Simon Dodden.
With Tile slipping up Tiger Old Boys took full advantage and return to top spot on goal difference after putting on a footballing masterclass at Fairfax Park to beat home side Cross Rifles 8-1. The prolific Ian Bellinger was at the heart of things once again with a four-goal salvo with the other strikes coming from Paul Meare, Aaron Whaites, Max Cushing and from Justin Lewis with a Denis Law-style backheeled effort. The referee is also to be congratulated for an excellent performance himself.
Quantock Pride remain third after a 3-3 draw away to a resurgent Pawlett United. Pride couldn't have started any better going 1-0 up after only fifteen seconds through an Ash Webber strike. The visitors then added to their lead with a second from Webber and a goal from Liam Nash to put Quantock 3-1 up at the break. However, Pawlett's belief has grown in recent weeks and they managed to claw it level in the second half to make it seven points out of nine from their last three outings.
After four straight defeats Maxwells may have found the solution to registering points by playing their home game with Railway Club with only ten men and looking much the better for it. Maxwells were 3-1 up at half-time after a brace from Steve Spencer and one from John Parnell but Railway's experienced side proved their resilience once again by staging a second-half fightback culminating in a last gasp equaliser in the dying seconds of the game.
In the remaining game in the top flight Flag Old Boys looked good value for their 3-0 home win over Ashcott after an early Andy White strike was followed by two further goals from Danny Crossley either side of the interval.
Meanwhile, in the second division, with top two Bridgwater Wanderers and Cannington not in action, Admirals were able to make up ground and slip into second place themselves thanks to a double helping of Cheese. Man of the match Andy Cheese hit two and was joined on the scoresheet by brother Martin to give Admirals a 3-1 win at Woolavington Reserves.
Bower United had to make do with a point from their long trip to Coxley Rovers after both sides played out a tight 1-1 draw. Joynul Ali scored for Coxley and Matt Eckley responded for Bower.
It was also honours even in the game between Pawlett Reserves and Blake Old Boys which ended 3-3. Paul Neal, Dan Grubb and Kev Warre were on target for Blake.
There was yet another 3-3 draw at Eastover Park but only after L & G had come back from 3-1 down at half-time to visitors Abbey Moor. Dave Cummings, Lee Fury and an equaliser in the 93rd minute from Ben Whittet salvaged a valuable point.
Huntspill Crowns also came on strong late in their game at Grasshoppers '05, coming back from 4-2 down to win 6-4 after a hat-trick from Paul Burrow and further goals from Andy Kitch, Russell Catlow and Brian Read.
In the remaining game in division two Ramblers and Sportsman managed to play out the rarely seen Sunday league scoreline of a 0-0 draw.
