MATCHDAY 13 ROUND-UP

Only five Uxella League games survived the wintry conditions this weekend with leaders Red Tile in action at home to Cross Rifles. It was a tight affair that hinged on one incident late in the game when a Rifles player handballed on the goal line and duly received his marching orders before Tile's leading scorer James Hamilton stepped up to convert the resulting penalty to give the home side a 1-0 victory that consolidates their position at the top of the table.

The only other top flight game was contested at ROF, Puriton where home team Maxwells made a dream start against Pawlett United with a first minute goal from Jim Livingstone followed by further strikes from Lee Thompson and Wayne Spencer that left Maxwells 3-2 up at half-time and with the prospect of having wind advantage in the second half. However, they somehow contrived to do less well with the wind in their favour after the break and went on to lose the game 4-3.

Meanwhile, in the second division, with their nearest rivals not in action Cannington were able to move into second place in the table after an emphatic 9-0 victory at home to Pawlett Reserves. Josh Harvey scored the goal of the game beating no less than six players with a stand-out solo effort from his eventual hat-trick. Veteran Darryl Taylor also scored three including a 25-yard screamer. Lee Harvey (2) and Mark Modley completed the rout.

There was a breakthrough moment for newly-formed Ramblers FC who registered their first point of the campaign from a 1-1 draw away to L & G. For a long time they had looked to be on course for three points after Scott Blackburn gave them a lead inside ten minutes after which they defended doggedly. However, with 93 minutes on the clock Lee Fury popped up to strike a last gasp equaliser for the home side.

In the remaining game in division two Woolavington Reserves won 6-3 at home to Sportsman. Adam Kinsey (3), John Wall, Sam Weston and Steve Harris scored the winning goals for Woolavington while Steve Addicott (2) and goalkeeper Pete Norman, directly from a goal-kick, responded with Sportsman's efforts.
