Red Tile are now top of the Uxella League after a comfortable 5-0 home win over Maltshovel at Cossington. James Hamilton bagged two goals and was joined on the scoresheet by Adam Chappell, Neil Thompson and Adam Evans.
Just behind Tile in second place, on the same number of points but with a game in hand, are Tiger Old Boys who also had a relatively routine 4-1 victory over Cross Rifles. There was a definite pattern to their goalscoring with Jamie Chillingworth opening the scoring with a penalty before Ian Bellinger added a second. Then Chillingworth converted a second spot kick before Bellinger scored his second of the game put the result beyond any doubt.
Railway Club made it four straight wins with a 5-0 victory at home to Maxwells. Former England schoolboy international and Tiverton Town player Lewis Irish bagged his second hat-trick of the campaign and team-mate Robert Trice scored the other two.
At the other end of the table there were priceless wins for two sides who have recently found it hard going.
Pawlett United recorded their first victory of the season by trouncing fellow strugglers Grasshoppers '04 7-2 on their luxurious Cannington College pitch. Pawlett were quite simply the faster out of the blocks and took a convincing 2-0 lead into the break. The sleepy Hoppers then briefly awoke at the restart and quickly pegged the score back to 2-2 after a clinical Dean Dunn strike and an absolute screamer into the top corner from Les Pope. However, Pawlett immediately retook the lead and this somehow led to a mysterious collapse by the Hoppers as the home side romped home in convincing fashion, led by the outstanding Will Beggs who scored four. Will Pope, Marcus Slade and Curtis James Ricketts were the other Pawlett goalscorers.
Flag Old Boys also rediscovered the scoring touch as they hit Ashcott for six in a 6-0 away win. Danny Crossley (2), Jamie Stewart, Andy White, Sebastian Mis and Andrew Riley struck the goals that see Flag move two places up the division one table.
Meanwhile, in the second division the top-of-the-table clash between Bridgwater Wanderers and Cannington eventually finished in the Wanderers' favour as they won 3-1 after goals Vince Kennedy, Dave Baker and John Cook and a man-of-the-match performance from John Cook. Wanderers are now four points clear at the top of division two.
High-scoring Admirals are nicely tucked in second spot after a 7-3 home win over Woolavington Reserves. The prolific Stu Croker was again in a rich vein of form with yet another hat-trick while Kev Andrews, Dave Preece, Andy Cheese and man-of-the-match Rich Smith also helped themselves to goals.
The young Bower United suffered their first league defeat of the campaign as they went down 2-3 at home to Coxley Rovers.
It is now six games without a victory for Blake Old Boys who started the campaign in blistering fashion with a succession of high scoring wins but who have recently had to make do with draws. Today was no exception as they took the lead on four separate occasions at home to Pawlett Reserves but were pegged back every time by the visitors, with the scoreline eventually finishing up 4-4. Kev Warre (2), Paul Neal and Craig Watts scored for Blake while Josh Speed hit a hat-trick in reply for Pawlett Reserves.
Sportsman's young side registered their fourth win of the campaign with a 3-0 away win at pointless Ramblers. Jack Taylor, Steve Addicott and an own goal secured the three points and Sportsman were also grateful to a commanding midfield performance from Jason Hitchcock in his final game before joining the Royal Navy.
In the remaining game in division two, visitors Huntspill Crowns ensured that it was a day to forget for Grasshoppers FC as they ran out 9-0 winners over Grasshoppers '05 at Morganians.
