MATCHDAY 5 ROUND-UP

Uxella League leaders Tiger Old Boys consolidated their position at the top of the pile this weekend with a narrow 3-2 home win over Pawlett United after goals from Nick Kierle, Jamie Chillingworth and Lee Huntley. They enjoyed a host of other scoring opportunities but credit must go to a hard-working Pawlett side who never gave up the fight and found consolation through a Lee Turner bullet header and a Curtis Ricketts strike.

The Tigers will also have been heartened to learn that reigning champions Woolavington went down 3-2 at Red Tile for whom a number of players were in outstanding form. James Hamilton in particular put on a superb show with two excellent strikes while Andy Smith scored Tile's third with a header. There were also great displays from Chris Ford, Adam Evans and from Liam Evans who made an astonishing goal line clearance in the dying seconds of the game to deny Woolavington a late equaliser. Red Tile sit proudly in second place in the table on the back of this fine victory.

Quantock Pride are just behind Tile in third place on goal difference after a 5-3 home win over Flag Old Boys. Flag arrived with a makeshift defence and were made to pay by a rampant James Bawden who scored four to give Pride a healthy 4-0 lead after the break. However, the visitors managed to rally and bring the score back to 4-3 after strikes from Jamie Stewart, Andy White and Danny Crossley but Liam Nash made the points safe for Quantock with a late fifth goal.

Maxwells lie in fourth place after again emerging unbeaten from a fourth successive away game. On this occasion they had to settle for a point after a closely contested game at Maltshovel Sports. Marcus Troman and two strikes from Mike Stone gave Maxwells a 3-2 lead late into the game but Darryl Cocks popped up to score his second of the game for the home side as they equalised late on.

There were plenty of goals in the remaining two games in the top flight.

Ashcott got back to winning ways with a 7-3 home win over Commercial. James Lacey led the way with a hat-trick, Kyle Butler scored two and Callum Butler and Chris Bell completed the rout.

Cross Rifles were also victorious by the same 7-3 scoreline at home to Grasshoppers '04. The Rifles raced into a 5-1 lead thanks to their sensational new Somalian striker Sylvester Manasay who struck a stunning hat-trick and ran the visitors ragged. James Bell also scored three and Phil Court chipped in with one of his own. The Hoppers battled back well in the second half clawing the score back to 5-3 but were ultimately left with too much of a mountain to climb and had to settle for well-taken consolation goals from Luke Morgan, Dean Dunn and Matt Burgess.

Meanwhile at the top of the Second Division there is no let-up between the two leading sides as they both racked up impressive winning margins again.

Leaders Cannington put Huntspill Crowns to the sword with a 9-1 tonking after a hat-trick from Darryl Taylor, two from Liam Barnett and one each from Josh Harvey, Rich Harvey, Dean Taylor and Lloyd Hackling.

Blake Old Boys, who are behind Cannington only on goal difference, similarly brushed aside their opponents as they ran out 8-1 victors over Sportsman. Kev Warre added to his impressive early season haul with another hat-trick, Matt Milton and Mike Hart both bagged two and Shane Thompson sealed the win. The stage is now set nicely for next weekend when the top two go head-to-head at Cannington.

Coxley Rovers were the other high scorers of the day as they scored eight without reply away to Grasshoppers '05.

Bower United's young side are up to fourth after their third straight win, this time 3-0 away to L & G after goals from Ryan Weston, Steve Hall and Scott Capel.

Dark horses Bridgwater Wanderers continue to keep in touch with the leading pack as they move up to fifth after a 4-2 away win over Pawlett Reserves. Vince Kennedy struck a hat-trick and was joined on the scoresheet by Ryan Cresswell.

A Jason Bale hat-trick helped free-scoring Admirals to another comfortable victory as they won 5-0 away to Ramblers. Stu Croker and Mike White were also on target.

In the remaining game in Division Two an Adam Kinsey strike could not prevent Woolavington Reserves from going down 3-1 at home to Abbey Moor who recorded their first points of the campaign in the process.
