MATCHDAY 19 ROUND-UP

The Uxella League programme was again heavily affected by the poor weather conditions and for the second week running only four fixtures were fulfilled.

The First Division saw only one game take place with Bunch of Grapes entertaining Maltshovel Sports on the forgiving mud of Eastover Park. Maltshovel trailed by a single goal at the interval but within five minutes of the restart they had turned the result around after a penalty from Jordan Meaker and a Dean Organ strike gave them a 2-1 lead. Then a second from Organ and a Mike Skidmore effort sealed the victory before Bunch managed to grab a second consolation goal in the final minutes to make the final score 4-2 to Maltshovel.

The Second Division had better luck with the pitches and half the scheduled games were able to be played including the fixtures involving the two front runners in the Division Two title race.

Leaders Quantock Pride were made to work hard for their three points over visiting bottom side Grasshoppers '05 but eventually racked up a 7-0 winning margin after two goals a piece from James Bawden, Steve Lock and Lee Goss plus a further strike from Paul Bawden.

Meanwhile second-placed Commercial were also in free-scoring mode as they ran out 6-1 away winners at Bower United after a Rob Wooley hat-trick, one of which was a penalty, two goals from Gordy Addicott and one from Olly Pearce. Commercial remain two points adrift of Quantock Pride but have a game in hand on the leaders.

In the remaining game in the second flight, Blake Old Boys ran out 2-0 home winners over Huntspill Crowns. It was a well fought encounter with chances at both ends but in the second period Marty Milton and Steve Clapp pounced to give Blake their first win in three games.
