DIVISION 1:
On the same day that Man United and Arsenal fought it out at Old Trafford a similar 'Clash of the Titans' took place in the Uxella League's top flight between Woolavington and Tiger Old Boys. In a finely balanced and high-tempo affair it was the visiting Tigers who came away with the spoils thanks to a 10th minute strike from Wilf Davie.
There was no shortage of goals in the match between Railway Club and Cobblestones where Railway ran out 12-0 victors thanks to four goals from veteran Terry Hodge, a hat-trick from Carl Tucker, two from John Richards and one each from Steve Woods, Lee Hemsley and Darren Mower.
Andy Staunton's injury-plagued Red Tile FC managed to dig deep and come away with an impressive 4-0 away win at Admirals Landing. James Hamilton scored in the first minute and eventually went on to complete a fine hat-trick. Ian Luke added a fourth to put the result beyond any doubt.
Pig & Whistle also bagged three points on their travels with a 5-0 away win at nine-man Clearwater. Tony Cook(2), Jon Richardson, Dave Baker and sub Sean O'Brien were the men who did the damage. The result means that, following a readjustment of the Division One table as a consequence of the official withdrawal of Commercial FC, Pig & Whistle are the new league leaders thanks to their superior goal difference over Tiger Old Boys, who have now played a game less.
DIVISION 2:
Lee White, Freddie Hemmings and Lee Turner all got on the scoresheet for Flag Old Boys as they won 3-1 at home to Ashcott. Flag's keeper Tim Griffiths also distinguished himself by saving a penalty.
Despite the scoreline being 2-1 at half-time Cross Rifles eventually ran out 9-2 winners at Cannington thanks to hat-tricks from Lee Stentaford and Craig McGann, a brace from Jason Stephenson and one from Daniel Grubb. Cannington's consolation strikes came courtesy of Ally Hewson and Brad Sparrow.
A goal from Eastover's Andrew Riley was not enough to prevent them from going down 5-1 at home to high-flying Black Horse for whom Andrew Barnett, Vince Kennedy, Ben Hobbs, Jason Clapp and Nick Price were all on target.
North Petherton emerged as comfortable 3-0 winners at home to Woolavington Reserves. The Petherton scorers were Shane Mantyk, Mark Mantyk and Craig Wright.
A spectacular display of goalkeeping from Huntspill Crowns' Nigel Venning kept the game goal-less until the 85th minute of their home game against Tiger Old Boys Reserves. However, super-sub Leigh Hurford came off the bench again to score the winner and ensure that the Tigers Reserves maintain their three point lead at the top of Division Two.
DIVISION 3:
Artillery West Huntspill Boys put Middlezoy Athletic to the sword with a 7-0 home win at Morganians RFC. Jeff Read bagged two goals while Pete Spellman, Steve Jones, Liam May, Andrew Walter and John "Minty" Winter weighed in with the other strikes.
After a two week break Puriton United picked up where they left off with a 6-3 home victory over Tor Sports thanks to a hat-trick from Darryl Taylor and further goals from Rich Harvey, Lee Mitchell and Ryan Williams.
Goals from Tyler Nodwell, Aarron Head and Jamie Evans were not enough to prevent Pig & Whistle Reserves going down 3-6 at home to Admirals Reserves. The result ensures that Admirals rise four places in the Division Three table to fourth position.
The Glastonbury area suffered the worst of the weekend's heavy rain as the fixtures featuring Backpackers v Bridgwater Grasshoppers and Glastonbury Town Sunday v Countryman were both postponed due to waterlogged pitches.
