MATCHDAY 15 ROUND-UP

There was better luck with the weather this weekend in the Uxella League and the clash of the day saw champions Woolavington play host to long-time rivals Tiger Old Boys, who have recently shown signs that they are title contenders once again. However, despite a close first forty five minutes Woolavington took full advantage of the Tigers' second half loss of two players to injury and romped to a resounding 7-2 win over their nine-man opponents thanks to a hat-trick from Matt Fursland, two goals from Matt Blackmore, a Danny Mira free-kick and a Tigers own goal. The winning margin might even have been greater had it not been for some heroic goalkeeping from the Tigers' Wayne Trapnell.

Second-placed Railway Club remain only three points behind Woolavington after a 4-1 away win at Maxwells. The evergreen Nigel Gillard bagged a hat-trick for Railway with Barry Hardwell adding the other. Sam Mullins responded for Maxwells.

Red Tile came from behind once again in their away trip to Bunch of Grapes. Bunch took an early 2-0 lead but Tile grew stronger as the game wore on and stole all three points with a 3-2 win after two goals from Andy Smith and one from Simon Bone.

Ashcott's revival continues as they ran out 3-2 victors at home to Maltshovel. James Lacey, Chris Bell and Chris Murphy scored the winning strikes for Ashcott while Jordan Meaker and David Spilsbury responded for the visitors.

Pawlett United secured a narrow 1-0 win at Cross Rifles thanks to a cracking free kick from Dave Baker on the stroke of half-time followed by some superb saves in the second half from Steve Baker to protect the slender United advantage.

In the Second Division start-of-day leaders Commercial were not in action and this gave second-placed Quantock Pride the chance to claim top spot for themselves. That is exactly what they proceeded to do but not before going a goal behind to the young Bower United side after a Steve Hall strike. However, Nathan Barnard restored parity and then team-mate Lee Goss scored the winner to put Quantock top, two points ahead of Commercial but having played a game more.

There was something of a shock result in the game between Countryman and Cannington with Countryman emerging as surprise 3-2 winners, in the process lifting themselves off the bottom of the table and putting to an end Cannington's long unbeaten run which had seen them climb to third in recent weeks.

With Cannington losing Admirals were able to leapfrog both them and Commercial and move up to second after a 2-1 away win at Bridgwater Wanderers after goals from man-of-the-match John Doyle and Kev Andrews. Sam Puddy responded for the Wanderers, whose goalkeeper Kurt Brown distinguished himself with an amazing save.

After an excellent start to the campaign it is now four defeats on the trot for Huntspill Crowns who went down 1-5 at home to Wookey Sports. Wookey's story is the exact opposite with their poor start to the season now a distant memory as they continue to rack up points and now stand just three points behind Huntspill after a hat-trick from Craig Rothwell and further goals from Shawn Rothwell and Ben Greenhalgh. Jason Roberts bagged Huntspill's consolation effort.

In the remaining game in Division Two, Blake Old Boys move up to third in the table after coming from behind to win 5-2 at Pawlett Reserves. Skipper Paul Winter bagged his first goal of the season from the halfway line and was joined on the scoresheet by Marty Milton (2), Steve Clapp and Jamie Winter.
