Reigning Uxella League champions Woolavington consolidated their position at the top of the pile this weekend as they racked up yet another victory while two of their closest rivals clashed and could only draw.
Woolavington secured their three points with a 3-0 home win over Red Tile after two goals from Ian Bellinger and one from Matt Blackmore.
Meanwhile second-placed Pawlett United travelled to fourth-placed Tiger Old Boys and were disappointed to only come away with a single point from a 2-2 draw despite creating a host of further goal-scoring opportunities. Lee Mitchell bagged both of United's goals.
Cross Rifles entertained Ashcott and the early exchanges were tight before Adam Kinsey opened the scoring for the home side only to see Chris Fletcher equalise for Ashcott. However, as the game wore on the Rifles became more dominant and with the help of two penalties, converted by Phil Court and Dan Grubb respectively, plus a 25-yard screamer from Matthew Phillips, they eventually ran out 4-1 winners.
Flag Old Boys also won at home as they faced bottom side Bunch of Grapes and raced into a 4-0 half-time lead after double strikes from Danny Crossley and Jamie Stewart. Bunch rallied after the interval and reduced the deficit to a single goal margin before an own goal gave Flag a 5-3 win.
In the remaining game in the top flight Maxwells 37 Club racked up their second 4-4 draw in succession after they battled back from 4-2 down away to Grasshoppers 04, thanks to a hat-trick from their skilful young Peter Crouch-like striker Carl Gymer and a last minute equalising penalty from Julian Thresher. Two poachers efforts from 16-year-old Jack Taylor, another from fellow teenager Jason Hitchcock and an exquisite 35-yard lob from Simon Turberfield had put the Hoppers in pole position before they somehow snatched a draw from the jaws of victory.
In the Second Division the much-anticipated clash between leaders Huntspill Crowns and the free-scoring young Bridgwater Wanderers side was abandoned after 55 minutes when an ambulance was required for a Huntspill player with a dislocated shoulder.
Second-placed Commercial continue their pursuit of top spot as they came away from the long haul trip to Wookey Sports with a narrow 1-0 win thanks to a Ben Norman strike.
Blake Old Boys move up into third spot on the back of their 4-2 home win over Admirals. Blake fought back from 2-0 down thanks to a well-taken hat-trick from young Martin Milton and a strike from Les Pope.
The accolade for biggest victory of the day goes to youthful Bower United who ran out 6-1 victors at home to Countryman after a hat-trick from Steve Hall and further goals from Brendon Pope, Shaun Turner and Jarrid McKay.
Quantock Pride were also victorious at home as they emerged as narrow 3-2 winners over Woolavington Reserves after goals from James Bawden, Andrew Barnard and Mark Passmore. Paul Atyeo and James Cornish responded for Woolavington.
In the remaining game in Division 2 the basement battle between Pawlett Reserves and Grasshoppers 05 gave both sides a point a piece as they fought out a 0-0 stalemate.
