After a couple of weeks of cup activity the focus was solely on the Uxella League this weekend and it was business as usual for reigning champions Woolavington who thumped Maxwells 37 Club 8-2. Ian Bellinger led the way with a hat-trick and the other goals were spread around the team, with a flying header from Jake Chidgey and further strikes from Simon Caddy, Gary Head, Marcus Butler and Matt Fursland. The scoreline might have been even greater had the home side not wasted a number of other goal-scoring opportunities.
With Tiger Old Boys not having a game Pawlett United took advantage and move back to the top of the table following a hard-fought 3-1 home win over fellow First Division new boys Grasshoppers '04. A Lee Turner penalty gave them an early lead and a brace from Dave Baker eventually made the game safe. Tom Seal responded for the Hoppers, also from the penalty spot.
Maltshovel Sports, the other side new to the top flight, registered a highly impressive 6-0 away win over Flag Old Boys. By Flag's own admission, Maltshovel played them off the park in every department and thoroughly deserved the victory after goals from Jordan Meaker (2), Daryl Cock, Dean Organ, S. Smith and S. Dennison.
It was a closely fought affair between Red Tile and Cross Rifles and it wasn't until the final minute of the game that Neil Thompson stole all three points for Tile with a header from a whipped in corner to give the home side a 1-0 win.
Ashcott and Bunch of Grapes also played out a close encounter but with more goals in their case as they eventually shared the spoils from an entertaining 4-4 draw. Steve Bradley, Jody Tidball and James Lacey (2) were on target for Ashcott.
The scheduled fixture between Railway Club and Squib Madrid did not go ahead following the disbanding of Squib Madrid earlier in the week after losing a succession of players to rival clubs over the last few months.
In the Second Division the young Bridgwater Wanderers side ran rampant over visitors Countryman, giving them a 10-1 mauling after a four-goal haul from John Richardson and two-goals each from Sam Puddy, Kev Warre and Shaun Thompson.
Huntspill Crowns were also in free-scoring form as they beat Pawlett Reserves 8-1 at home. Paul Burrow was the main instigator with a hat-trick and Jeff Read (2), Ian Howgate, Paolo Nunez and John Kear completed the rout.
There were also plenty of goals in the game between Cannington and Quantock Pride. With the match evenly poised at the interval at 3-3 veteran striker Darryl Taylor came off the bench and won the game for Cannington with a fine hat-trick to give the home side a shock 7-3 win.
Two goals from Darren Hill and one from Darren Hewitt gave Commercial a solid 3-0 home victory over Woolavington Reserves.
It was honours even as the youngsters of Bower United entertained Blake Old Boys and secured another hard-won point from a 3-3 draw. Scott Capel, Steve Hall and Brendan Pope were on target for Bower while Les Pope, Matt Milton and Steve Clapp responded for Blake.
In the remaining game in the second division, the basement battle between Grasshoppers '05 and Wookey Sports eventually saw visitors Wookey claim all three points from a 2-1 win after goals from David Sarjant and from player-manager Richard Forster. Liam "Slim" Kinsey responded for the home side.
