A second round of evening games took place in the Uxella League this week and newly-promoted Pawlett United consolidated their position at the top of the table with a fourth consecutive victory and maximum points after a hard-fought 2-1 home victory over their arch rivals from last season's Second Division title race Maltshovel sports.
However, just below the new boys are the old boys of Tigers who demonstrated again that they are firmly back on track after last season's uncharacteristic lull, as they won 3-2 at home to Flag Old Boys after goals from Paul Irvine, Paul Meare and Jamie Chillingworth. Flag have had an uncertain start to this campaign and although they lost on the day they looked much improved from earlier outings giving them some hope for the weeks ahead and Lee White was at the heart of their best moments scoring both goals.
Reigning champions Woolavington got back to winning ways after their shock reverse at Pawlett on Sunday by beating Cross Rifles 4-1 at home after a brace from Marcus Butler and one each from Matt Blackmore and Simon Caddy. Carl Jones responded for the Rifles.
Nigel Gillard also bagged two goals as Railway Club won 2-0 at home to Red Tile.
In the other top flight evening game Squib Madrid beat Bunch of Grapes 3-2 at home.
In the Second Division Bridgwater Wanderers went goal-crazy as they beat Pawlett Reserves 14-3. In a very one-sided encounter the young Wanderers side created chance after chance and Jamie Evans led the way with four strikes, Kev Warre and Dean Dunn both bagged hat-tricks, John Richardson scored two and Mike Hart and an own goal completed the rout.
Another young side in fine form were Bower United's collection of 16-year-olds who won 3-0 away to Grasshoppers '05 after goals from Craig Lazenby, Scott Capel and Shaun Turner.
A Jeff Smith consolation goal could not stop early season division 2 table toppers Admirals from losing 3-1 at home to Commercial.
A Tom Presley goal gave Woolavington Reserves a point from their 1-1 draw away at Blake Old Boys.
In the remaining evening games in the second division Quantock Pride beat Wookey Sports 3-0 and Huntspill Crowns won 1-0 away to Cannington thanks to a Richard Cattell strike.
