MATCHDAY 3 ROUND-UP

A gloriously sunny september Sunday morning saw the third game of the week for most sides and in the top division there were decisive results in every fixture.

Without doubt, the most eye-catching scoreline was Pawlett United's 3-1 win over champions Woolavington. Both teams came into this fixture with a 100% record so something had to give and in the end it proved to be Woolavington's air of invincibility as two excellent goals from Dave Baker and a superb lob from Will Beggs gave top-flight new boys Pawlett all three points and top spot in the early league table. Matt Blackmore scored Woolavington's consolation late in the game after his side had been forced to play a large part of the game with only ten men after a handball on the line saw a red card for one of their men and a subsequent penalty miss from United's Baker.

Cross Rifles also kept up their own 100% record as they beat Squib Madrid 2-0 at home after strikes from Paul Cornish and Matty Phillips.

Grasshoppers '04 put their midweek mauling at the hands of Woolavington behind them as they ran out 3-1 home winners over Maltshovel Sports after goals from their new 16-year-old striking prodigies Jack Taylor(2) and Jason Hitchcock. Veteran player-manager Chris Davis scored Maltshovel's consolation goal late on with a powerful close range header.

Tiger Old Boys remain unbeaten and took full advantage of Woolavington's surprise slip-up with a 3-1 home win over Bunch of Grapes after two superb goals from Jamie Chillingworth and a typical poacher's effort from Paul Meare. Chillingworth's first goal was a Beckham-esque chip from inside his own half and his second a 25-yard thunderbolt.

After defeats in their opening two fixtures Railway Club registered their first win of the new campaign with a 2-0 home victory over Flag Old Boys, with both goals being scored from the penalty spot by Lee Hemsley.

In the second division last season's Uxella League top scorer James Bawden racked up his first hat-trick of the season to take his early tally to five from two games as Quantock Pride won 5-0 at Pawlett Reserves. Paul Bawden and Mark Passmore also scored.

Admirals made it three wins out of three after a 4-1 away victory at injury-hit, nine-man Wookey Sports despite a consolation from Wookey's John Osman.

Commercial maintained their excellent start to the campaign as they won 4-3 at Cannington after a long-range free-kick from Scott Hawkins, a Darren Copper effort direct from a cross and further strikes from Darren Hewitt and Ben Norman. Darryl Taylor, Dean Taylor and Ash Webber scored for Cannington.

Bower United's side of 16-year-olds followed up on their midweek draw with their first win of the season as they beat Woolavington Reserves 2-1 at home.

Grasshoppers '05 achieved their first point of the campaign after a 1-1 draw away to Countryman. Jason Birch put Countryman in the lead midway through the first half but Luke Richards equalised for the Hoppers fifteen minutes from the end.

In the final game in the second division Bridgwater Wanderers won 2-1 over Blake Old Boys after goals from Jamie Evans and Kev Warre.
