COUNTRYMAN 3 - 2 ADMIRALS |
|
A distinctinctly muddy pitch was a minor inconvenience for this 5th against 6th encounter. Several key players absent for Countryman through injury meant fielding several players out of position. The first half saw chances at each end before Paul Kerle squeezed a shot past the Admirals keeper to open the scoring. Admirals rallied with pressure of their own, but failed to take advantage of some golden opportunities, although eventually bringing things level after half an hour. A slick passing move from left to right saw Countryman take a half time advantage as Lee "Bean" Stoodley gently eased the ball wide of the keeper and in off the post.
The second half saw Admirals determined to exert more pressure, and this duly told when some sloppy marking allowed a second equaliser for Admirals. The pitch becoming heavier by the minute the game opened and saw chances for both teams until Paul Kerle popped up once more to guide the ball into the net for his second of the game, and give the lead to the Countryman once again.
The rather lame excuse of having to pick someone up from the airport saw Guy Culliford substituted to be replaced by Colin "Anderton" Blatchford-Brown after a 4 month lay off through injury. As unfit as ever it was if he had never been away, luckily lasting the 25 minutes without further injury.
The Countryman creating several late chances, failed to convert but held on to a strong result against a purposeful Admirals team.
