TOR SPORTS FC 5 BRIDGWATER WANDERERS 1

It's a wonder this one even started! The previous day Forster, Wilcox and Cove stood cringing as the saturday side systematically took the fragile Tor pitch apart leaving it resembling a peat marsh.
Just before the tears started flowing, the groundsman appeared brandishing a line marker, tape measure and corner brackets to mark out the second pitch, relief set in as the day after had been saved.
The old saying goes "if it can go wrong, it most probably will go wrong"..........

Saturday 14th 9.30pm Joint top scorer Truckle phones in sick.
Saturday 14th 9.45pm Dave 'Gary' Wilson confirms he wants a five year contract.

Sunday 15th 8.45am Phil Johnson and Richard Forster arrive at Tor Leisure with a view to moving the goalposts from the old pitch to the new one "the new pitch has grass and it hasn't been played on for months, should allow us to play some good stuff" then came a bewildered reply from Johnson "what pitch?" To the horror of both men, the lines marked the previous day had been washed away, our pitch had dissapeared. Some quick thinking and twenty minutes later, a hungover Pentney arrived with the line marker full of bright white paint, it was going to be tight, but we were back on schedule. Nothing could go wrong now, except maybe the paint spilling out the back of the marker, but that wasnt going to happen.

It's now 9.30am and we have no paint, it was sported as the latest fashion statement on the shoes and jeans of Pentney, there was nothing else for it, we were going to have to chance the old pitch with its mud, non goalscoring legend Nick Sarjant was despatched to B&Q for bags of sand, 'Gary' Wilson carried the bricks (you really have to be at Tor training sessions to understand this one) whilst the back four considered the fact they were going to have to take their annual shower a couple of months early this year.

Half time arrived, to the relief of twenty two sets of legs, with an individual team effort from Captain Osman and opportunistic finish from Johnson, replied by a skillful run and strike from the visitors, leaving Tor 2-1 up. Both sides battled the mud for a further 45 minutes, and to their credit made a good game of it. The game was finally settled by a second strike from Johnson within ten minutes of the re-start and a penalty from Alex Joyce (who should have been at home revising). In the dying seconds a third Tor penalty of the game was awarded, this time Paul 'Fuzz' Forster stepped up to score his first competative goal for Tor, sparking wacky celebrations which saw 'Fuzz' cover more ground in ten seconds than he had in the previous 89 minutes.

On a day when Tor chalked up five goals, the jury was hung on the man of the match award, between goalkeeper Chris Wilcox and defender Richard Forster, Wilcox pulled off a string of fine saves, most notably in the second half, whilst Forster made some breathtaking last gasp tackles and goal line clearances. Without the aide of a burning bush apparition, the decision will be much like the pitch today, sticky and very hard to take.

Tor Sports Fc managment would also like to announce that they are now taking orders for official 'Tor Sports FC' polo shirts, please contact torsportsfc@yahoo.co.uk for details.
