As the Uxella League teams now look to enjoy a welcome mid-season Christmas break Railway Club ensured that is their name that will sit proudly at the top of the tree over the festive season and into the New Year after an impressive 4-1 away victory at Clearwater. For once the name of the league's top marksman, Bob "I'm not a veteran" Abrams, was not on the scoresheet and instead it was Barry Hardwell (2), Lee Hemsley and John Richards who secured yet another three points for this season's top-flight pacesetters.
After racking up ten goals last weekend Woolavington nearly matched that feat again as they put Flag Old Boys, a decent side in their own right, to the sword with an emphatic 9-0 home victory. Ex-Bridgwater Town man Matt Blackmore was central to proceedings with a five-goal display while Matt Fursland bagged a brace and Marcus Butler and Danny Mira completed the rout. Woolavington will be cursing the timing of the winter break as their current form is irresistible and they will be wanting to regain their momentum when the action recommences again in the second week of January.
Reigning champions Tiger Old Boys enjoyed a relatively comfortable days work and were always in control of their encounter with rivals Squib Madrid before eventually running out 4-0 home victors. Their goals came from Richard Onslow (2), Mike Nicholson and a first of the season from Chris Clark.
Ashcott came away from their pre-festive season trip to Bunch of Grapes with a fine 7-1 away win after a veritable "Chris Mass" of goals. Chris Bell bagged four and was joined on the scoresheet by Chris Murphy, Chris Fletcher and ..... Jodie Tidball.
Two goals from Olly Smith and one-a-piece from Simon Bone and Nathan Forde gave Red Tile yet another victory as they dispensed with struggling Cross Rifles with a 4-2 home win in a game that never really offered much as a spectacle.
The match between Blake Old Boys and Tiger Reserves was postponed due to a frozen pitch.
In Division Two, with leaders Maltshovel having their game postponed this weekend Quantock Pride took full advantage as they ran out 5-3 winners away to Commercial, a result which leaves them only a point behind Maltshovel in second place but having played two games more. James Bawden was the man-of-the-match as he racked up a fine hat-trick and was joined on the scoresheet by Paul Bawden and Shane Nelson. Ben Norman (2) and Scott Hawkins responded for Commercial.
The sheer will to win of a young Bridgwater Wanderers side was there for all to see as they ran out 5-2 home victors over Grasshoppers '05 despite playing a large part of the game with only ten men after losing their goalkeeper to injury midway through the first half. Two goals each from playmaker Jamie Evans and from Dean Dunn plus another from Sam Smith ensured that the Wanderers move up three places in the table to eighth. Nigel Woodcock and Mark Passmore responded for an off-colour Hoppers '05 outfit who will be hoping to rediscover their form early in the new year.
A hat-trick from Kev Andrews and one each from Kev Curran and Dave Gardner gave Admirals a 5-2 home victory over Woolavington Reserves.
The scheduled games between Countryman and Puriton United, Grasshoppers '04 versus Glastonbury and Tor Sports against Maltshovel were all postponed.
