WEEK 5 ROUND-UP

DIVISION 1:

The Tiger Old Boys juggernaut continues to sweep all before it as they ran out 4-0 winners away at Railway Club. In a game where the Tigers totally dominated, and perhaps should have scored more, a lively Lloyd Dean bagged another two goals while Rob Fearn and Mike Nicholson also chipped in to ensure that the reigning champions maintain their perfect Uxella League record this season.

Woolavington continue to breathe down the necks of the Tigers as they consolidated their position in second place with a 5-3 home victory over Red Tile. Woolavington's scorers were Gary Head, Matt Blackmore, Simon Caddy, John Wall and Tim Netto. Red Tile responded with consolation strikes courtesy of Jason McPheat, a James Hamilton free-kick and a volley from player-manager Andy Staunton.

Pig & Whistle got back to winning ways with an impressive 7-1 away win at Admirals Landing. Dave Baker and Darren Hill both bagged two goals a piece and were joined on the scoresheet by Ben Bigwood, Tony Cook and full-back Mark O'Brien who scored an excellent goal from a tight angle. Kev Andrews got Admirals's consolation goal.

Fine goals from Robert Trice and Leigh Gough were not enough to prevent Cobblestones going down to their fourth successive defeat, this time 7-2 at the hands of a resurgent Durleigh side.

DIVISION 2:

Tiger Old Boys Reserves continue to lead the pack in Division Two as they came back from 3-1 down to win 4-3 at North Petherton. Goals from Jason Vines, Brady Hart and Nick Richards had looked like securing a victory for the home side but two strikes from super-sub Leigh Hurford and further goals from Kered Pople and Huw Richards ensured that Tigers Reserves went away with all three points.

Lee White stormed to the top of the Uxella League goalscoring charts with a magnificent double hat-trick, including three headers. A further goal from Kevin Wheddon gave Flag Old Boys a 7-2 home win over Woolavington Reserves and ensured that Flag move back into second place in the table by virtue of their superior goal difference.

Bottom-of-the-table Cannington had looked on course for a surprise win over high-flying Black Horse, having taken a 3-0 lead thanks to goals from Dan Russell, Luke Gregory and Alex Bradley. However, three Black Horse strikes in the last ten minutes meant that Cannington had to settle for their first point of the season rather than all three while Black Horse maintained their unbeaten record.

In a somewhat scrappy encounter Cross Rifles emerged as 4-2 winners over Ashcott thanks to two goals from Mike Hawthorne, one from Craig McGann and an excellent effort from man-of-the-match Tom Modley who had been giving Ashcott's defence problems throughout the game with his blistering pace.

Eastover Wanderers struck the fastest goal of the Uxella League campaign so far when Tommy Chidgey scored after only eleven seconds to put Wanderers ahead in their away game at Huntspill Crowns. Huntspill soon got themselves back into the game and eventually took the lead thanks to strikes from Alan Beechey and Rob Kilduff. However, Eastover were not to be denied and, in a fine example of "bouncebackability", levelled the scores and snatched a point thanks to a late strike from Pat Roberts.

DIVISION 3:

Sportsman sealed their fourth straight win in Division Three with a 3-1 victory over Pig & Whistle Reserves. Two goals from Mike Skidmore, including a penalty, and another strike from Jordan Meaker ensured that Sportsman go level on points at the top of table just behind Puriton United on goal difference but having played a game more. Pig Reserves saw three of their players sent off either side of the interval and, were it not for a consolation goal from Bob Smith and an inspired goalkeeping performance from Martin Lang, the scoreline could have been much greater.

Artillery West Huntspill Boys made it four wins out of four with a 6-2 home demolition of Glastonbury Town Sunday. Mark Raymond was the difference between the two sides as he bagged four goals. Damien Kaye and veteran John Winter weighed in with the other Artillery strikes.

Admirals Reserves rise two places in the table following a narrow 2-0 victory over an unlucky Bridgwater Grasshoppers side. Having conceded a somewhat harshly awarded early penalty, which was converted by Admirals' Wes Glover, the 'hoppers went on to lose regular goalie Geoff Powell to injury only twenty minutes into the game. Hero of the hour was Adam Kinsey who, having just returned from injury himself and having had stitches removed from his knee on the morning of the game, went on to put in an assured display between the sticks. There was nothing he could do, however, to stop a fine second Admirals strike from Martin Cheese which was expertly dispatched into the top corner to seal the victory for the home side.

Backpackers also ascend two places in the table following their 1-0 win over Countryman thanks to a Pete Bishop goal.

Andy Redman's Middlezoy Athletic registered their first three points of the campaign, running out 3-2 winners at home to Tor Sports thanks to strikes from Tom Lind, George Jones and Martin Howarth.
