MATCHDAY 12 ROUND-UP

In an Uxella League programme that was significantly affected by the recent heavy rain, only six fixtures, or should that be pitches, survived across the two divisions.

Railway Club extended their lead at the top of the First Division following a 2-1 home win over Squib Madrid. Railway were again thankful for the presence of veteran striker Bob Abrams who scored both of their goals, one of which was a penalty.

Red Tile again demonstrated their rapid improvement during this campaign as they ran out 8-0 winners away to Blake Old Boys, a team they had lost 4-1 to on the opening day of the season. Tile now move into second place in the table after two goals each from Jason Hobbs and James Hamilton, one-a-piece from Andy Staunton and Damon Jennings plus a couple of Blake own goals.

Woolavington also registered an eight goal haul as they got back to winning ways after their Somerset Cup exit last weekend with an 8-1 away victory at Ashcott. The three points were duly secured following braces from Matt Fursland, Matt Blackmore and 16-year-old Jake Chidgey plus a goal each from Wayne Barry and Marcus Butler. Chris Fletcher bagged Ashcott's consolation effort.

The games between Tiger Reserves and Clearwater and Cross Rifles versus Flag Old Boys were both postponed due to waterlogged pitches.

In the Second Division leaders Maltshovel Sports continued their unbeaten start to the season with a 2-0 home win over Admirals after two second half goals from Jordan Meaker.

Quantock Pride continue to be their closest rivals after they emerged from their top-of-the-table home clash with Puriton United with a 4-3 victory after two goals from James Bawden and one each from Ricky Williams and Jamie O'Brien. Pride had raced into a 3-0 lead but Puriton clawed their way back into contention by levelling the scores at 3-3 after strikes from Darryl Taylor, Will Beggs and promising 16-year-old Josh Harvey. United might even have won it had they not had a goal disallowed for offside but it was Pride who scored the winner in the last ten minutes and who were also thankful for a great goalkeeping display from Chris James.

Third-placed Countryman had to settle for a point following a 2-2 home draw with a spirited Grasshoppers '04 side who again put their faith in youth and were duly rewarded with goals from 16-year-olds Gary Passmore and Matt Burgess. Countryman's strikes came from Paul Curle and Toby Tucker.

The games between Woolavington Reserves and Glastonbury, Commercial and Cannington and Grasshoppers '05 versus Tor Sports were all victims of the weather.
