Without a doubt the story of the day emerged from the game between Uxella League leaders Tiger Old Boys and a much-improved Red Tile side this season who have been registering some impressive results but none more so than this 2-1 away win at Tigers, inflicting a first league defeat in over two years for the reigning league champions. Tile started brightly but failed to convert any of their early chances until Simon 'Snoopy' Bone managed to get on the end of a cross from player-boss Andy Staunton to give the visitors a 1-0 advantage at the interval. Of course, as Ashcott found to their cost only a couple of weeks previously, a 1-0 half-time lead over the Tigers can often prove to be a fleeting feeling but on this particular occasion Tile found the necessary grit to see the job through to a sensational conclusion. They did so against the odds as well having been forced into a second-half reshuffle due to injury. They brought on James 'Hammy' Hamilton and Will Munn and the two subs soon linked up well as Hamilton whipped a ball in for Will Munn to get on the end of to give Tile a priceless 2-0 lead with only twenty minutes remaining. The Tigers then hit back like the champions they are, putting the visitors under immense pressure in the final quarter. Chance after chance came and while they managed to get a goal back very quickly they just couldn?t find the equalizer that normally is an inevitable consequence of their huge attacking threat. So a famous victory for Tile while the Tigers will need to regroup quickly ahead of an intriguing Somerset Cup tie next weekend which pits them at home against none other than their Uxella League rivals Woolavington.
Hot on the heels of the Tigers at the top of the Uxella League are Railway Club who are now only behind the champions on goal difference after a 4-3 home victory over Ashcott. The visitors had taken a 3-2 lead in the second half but Railway rallied well and secured a hard-fought win after two goals from Barry Hardwell and one each from John Richards and Carl Tucker.
Only two points back from the top two are Flag Old Boys who racked up yet another victory with a 3-0 home win over Blake Old Boys. The first half was a tight affair but Flag still managed to go in at the interval with a slender 1-0 lead thanks to a Lee White strike. The second half was much more open and Flag duly went on to seal all three points after White bagged his second of the game before team-mate Mike Taylor sealed the win.
Bottom-of-the-table Huntspill Crowns took a surprise lead against Clearwater but a first half hat-trick from Clearwater?s John Spence and a further strike in the second half from Wayne Spencer gave Clearwater a 4-2 home win.
Cross Rifles had actually started the day in bottom place in the First Division table but climb three places after a fine 3-0 home win over Bunch of Grapes. Youngster Adam Kinsey was man-of-the-match for the Rifles scoring twice and putting in an outstanding display on the left flank before his even younger team-mate, 16-year-old Carl Jones, provided the match with its stand-out moment, scoring a superb solo effort after a mazy run from the halfway line, beating four Bunch players in the process.
In the Second Division Puriton United consolidated their position in second place with a fine 6-2 away win over bottom side Cannington, for whom young Sam Chillingworth got on the scoresheet.
Two goals from Leigh Gough were not enough to prevent Commercial going down 2-4 at home to Countryman who now move up to third on the back of this win.
A 40-yard screamer from Kev Dibble with five minutes remaining ensured that Woolavington Reserves ran out 4-3 home victors over Admirals Landing.
In the remaining game played in the Second Division, Tor Sports continued their recent run of impressive results with a 4-0 home win over Grasshoppers ?05.
