FRIENDLY: ARTILLERY 4 BRIDGWATER GRASSHOPPERS 0 |
|
In a good-natured encounter at The Morganians Sports Ground on Sunday 22nd August, Artillery FC demonstrated how they have been busy in the close season making a number of quality new signings and, on this performance, look likely to improve significantly on their bottom-of-the-table position from the last campaign.
For their part, the newly resurrected Bridgwater Grasshoppers were missing a number of key players and were to suffer further personnel problems during the game, first losing Rich Jones after quarter of an hour with a thigh problem before seeing his central defensive partner Paul Ham join him on the touchline early in the second half with an ankle injury.
The Hoppers were therefore forced to shuffle their pack yet again but can draw a certain amount of satisfaction from the fact that they had managed to hold the score at 0-0 until midway through the second half when the awarding of a disputed penalty turned the game. They can also point to a promising debut from Dave Shaw at right back, the re-emergence of Lee Gannicott as a dangerous left winger and a string of impressive saves from their new Polish goalkeeper, Lucasz Szulk.
